Practical & Controversial Issues in Diagnosis, Grading and Staging of Urothelial Carcinoma: an Approach

چکیده
DIAGNOSIS: A. All that is papillary in the bladder is not papillary urothelial neoplasia: i. Diagnostic pitfalls: papillary hyperplasia, nephrogenic adenoma, fibroepithelial polyp and papillary/polypoid cystitis ii. Artifacts: pseudopapillary folds and avulsed urothelium B. All urothelial proliferations that expand the lamina propria are not invasive carcinoma: i. Diagnostic pitfalls: florid von Brunn nests and pseudocarcinomatous hyperplasia C. Formes frustes of papillary urothelial neoplasia: i. Papillary hyperplasia ii. Dysplasia/CIS with early papillary formations iii. Truncated papillae of treated urothelial neoplasia iv. Bulbous inverted prolongations without surface papillary component D. Pitfalls in the diagnosis of flat lesions: i. Radiation and chemotherapy related atypia ii. Reactive atypia iii. Human polyoma virus

A survey on the DNA content in Transitional cell carcinoma of bladder and its relation with histological graging
Transitional cell carcinoma(T.C.C) of bladder display an upredictable biological behavior.Morphologic methods of grading this tumor are insuficient to predict the clinical outcome of the patients.the aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between histological grading staging and DAN ploidy especially in intermediate grade II(IIa and IIb). in a retrospective study of tissue spec...
متن کاملگزارش یک مورد سرطان اوروتلیال پلاسماسیتوئید مثانه
Bladder cancer most commonly exists as an epithelial tumor in which around 90% of cases are transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) with a papillary appearance. The world health organization (WHO) classification defines new histological and molecular variants of urothelial carcinoma in 2004. One of them is plasmacytoid urothelial carcinoma (PUC). Less than 100 cases have been reported in the literatu...
متن کاملImmunohistochemical Comparison of p53 Expression, Intensity and Distribution in Different Papillary Urothelial Cancers
Background: Given the importance of differential diagnosis of different papillary urothelial cancers, expression, intensity and distribution of p53 were evaluated in different bladder cancers using immunohistochemistry. Materials and Methods: In a retrospective study, archived samples of patients with different papillary urothelial cancers in Shohaday-e-Khalij Fars Hospital were selected. The s...
متن کاملDifferential diagnosis of urothelial carcinoma in situ from non-neoplastic urothelia: Analysis of CK20, CD44, P53 and Ki67
Background: Flat urothelial lesions comprise a spectrum of morphologic changes ranging from reactive atypia to carcinoma in situ (CIS). Urothelial dysplasia and CIS are associated with the recurrence and progression of urothelial carcinoma. Distinguishing CIS and dysplasia from reactive atypia based on histolopathogical features alone is often difficult. Using different immunohistochemical mark...
متن کاملIssues pertaining to PET imaging of liver cancer
Positron emission tomography (PET) imaging using 2-deoxy-2-[F-18]fluoro-D-glucose (FDG) has proven valuable in the diagnosis, staging and restaging for many cancers. However, its application for liver cancer has remained limited owing in part to the relatively high background uptake of the tracer in the liver plus the significant variability of the tumor specific uptake in liver cancer among pa...
